Before You Begin

Before you begin working with this BSP, you should become familiar with the resources available to you.

Essential information

Before you install your BSP, review the following documentation:

Required software

To work with this BSP, you require the following:

  • BSP ZIP file for the board. To work with this BSP, you'll unzip this BSP ZIP file into BSP_ROOT_DIR, where BSP_ROOT_DIR is an environment that represents the work directory where you extracted your BSP ZIP file. Throughout this guide, we refer to the directory that you extracted your ZIP file to as BSP_ROOT_DIR or bsp_working_dir. For more information, see Download and set up the BSP in the Installation Notes chapter of this guide.
  • QNX Software Development Platform 8.0 installed on a Linux or Windows host system.
  • Virtual COM Port (VCP) Driver. This driver must be installed on your host system that connects to the board. To get the driver and read more information about it, see the Future Technology Devices International Ltd. (FTDI) website at http://www.ftdichip.com/FTDrivers.htm.
  • A terminal emulation program (e.g., Qtalk, Hyperterminal, PuTTy, etc.) to connect to the board for debugging. Alternatively, you can use a a serial or ssh session from the QNX Momentics IDE.
  • Varicite i.MX8MP Dart board comes with pre-installed U-boot and linux system in it. See the Variscite Quickstart Guide (https://www.variscite.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/DART-MX8M-PLUS-quick-start-guide.pdf), to get started with the Variscite i.MX8MP DART Board product.
  • QNX OS 8.0 requires that the board device tree be loaded to memory by U-Boot. The U-Boot can be loaded from on-board eMMC and the Variscite i.MX8MP DART DTB file can be retrieved from the /boot folder of pre-installed linux.
Note:
If in any case U-boot is erased/corrupted inside the eMMC, entire eMMC can be reflashed by booting the board with external microSD card by keeping the switch position to EXT, and formatting the SD card and following the steps provided in the following: https://variwiki.com/index.php?title=Yocto_Recovery_SD_card&release=mx8mp-yocto-mickledore-6.1.36_2.1.0-v1.3 .
