QNX Announces Support for New Intel® Atom™ Processor N270

OTTAWA, September 25, 2008 — As part of its ongoing support for Intel® low-power products, QNX Software Systems today announced support for the Intel® Atom™ processor N270 and the Mobile Intel® 945GSE Express chipset.

As a result, embedded developers can combine the superior performance-per-watt of the Intel Atom processor N270 with the fault-tolerant operation, advanced graphics capabilities, and rich multimedia support of the QNX® Neutrino® RTOS and QNX Aviage® middleware family.

“Increasingly, system designs for the industrial control and medical device markets need to support sophisticated HMIs and multimedia, but without sacrificing realtime performance or reliability,” said Linda Campbell, director, strategic alliances, QNX Software Systems. “By combining QNX OS and middleware technology with the Intel Atom processor N270, developers can tackle this challenge head on, while also satisfying strict power budgets.”

QNX support for Intel® Atom™ processors includes an HMI player based on Adobe Flash Lite 3, optimized 2D/3D hardware-assisted graphics based on OpenGL ES, and an Intel-optimized compiler for high performance.

“The Intel Atom N270 with 945GSE chipset platform is ideal for embedded customers who want to use low-power Intel® architecture to design entry-level applications and need flexible I/O capabilities and sophisticated graphics capabilities for larger displays,” said Jonathan Luse, director of marketing, Low Power Embedded Products Division, Intel. “This platform will enable embedded developers to utilize QNX’s solutions out-of-the-box to accelerate the delivery of graphics-rich, high-performance embedded systems.”

The Intel Atom processor N270 is based on Intel® 45nm Hi-k metal gate silicon technology and is optimized for low-power operation. The Mobile Intel 945GSE Express chipset includes an integrated 32-bit 3D graphics engine as well as support for PCI Express, PCI, Serial ATA, and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connectivity.

The QNX Neutrino RTOS also supports the Intel® Atom™ processor Z5xx series.

Availability
QNX support for the Intel® Atom™ processor N270 is available now, as part of the standard QNX x86 board support package (BSP). For more information on QNX support for the Intel Atom processors, visit the QNX download center.
