Every time I hit backspace or do something in error I get a terminal beep or bell. This beep on most computers is pretty quiet by on my laptop, it is routed to the sound card and is very loud and distracting!

How can I disable the bell?

Solution

Just put the following line in your $HOME/.profile script or execute this on the command line to disable the terminal bell in QNX6/Neutrino:

printf '%c[=1;1;B` 0x1b > /dev/con1
