Open Source License Agreements

The QNX Momentics® Development Tools (Momentics Tools), QNX Neutrino® RTOS (Neutrino RTOS), and certain optional QNX Aviage™ middleware software (collectively, the QNX Development Suite) contain contributions licensed under open source license agreements. The QNX License Guide, identifies these contributions for each product component, and the corresponding QNX Third Party License Terms List (Third Party Terms), gives details on the third party licenses referenced in the License Guide.

Many of those components are available for free use. QNX licensees are encouraged to take those open source components and do with them whatever their open source licenses allow.

QSS is also a major contributor to open source software widely used by other companies around the world. We were a founding member of Eclipse and we continue to manage one of its most popular projects, the Eclipse C/C++ Developer Tools (CDT), which is largely based on code that we donated to Eclipse.

We are now beginning to release additional components of our software under open source licenses.

Open Source Board Support Packages

QSS has begun publishing QNX board support package (BSP) software under the Apache License, Version 2.0 (Apache 2.0). Members of the QNX developer community are encouraged to use their Momentics Tools to create BSPs to allow the QNX RTOS to run on a wider variety of hardware platforms. Under the terms of this Open Source license there are no restrictions on what you can do with the Apache 2.0-licensed code or to whom you may distribute it.

Note that certain QNX BSPs cannot be published under Apache 2.0 at this time due to third party license or confidentiality restrictions. These will still be available at no-charge but under somewhat more restrictive license terms.
