QNX Drives Home with a Best of CES Award

New QNX CAR 2 application platform honored with Best of CES Award in Car Tech category

OTTAWA, January 13, 2012 — QNX Software Systems Limited, a global leader in software platforms for the in-car infotainment and telematics market, has won a Best of CES Award, in the Car Tech category, for its recently announced QNX CAR™ 2 application platform.

"Two words describe the response we received at CES — overwhelmingly positive," said Derek Kuhn, vice president of sales and marketing, QNX Software Systems. "Our new concept car, which showcases the rich capabilities of the QNX CAR 2 application platform, struck a chord with attendees by providing a first-hand glimpse of how the connected driving experience is poised to become dramatically transformed.

"More than anything else, people wanted to know, 'How soon can I get it?' That's a real testament to QNX Software Systems' automotive vision and to the powerful capabilities of our technology."

The QNX concept car, based on a Porsche Carrera, is equipped with an array of advanced features, including one-touch Bluetooth smartphone pairing based on Near Field Communications (NFC); ultra HD voice technology for clearer, richer-sounding hands-free calls; front-seat media control of rear-seat tablets; and a dynamically reconfigurable digital instrument cluster.

The car is designed to demonstrate how the QNX CAR 2 application platform can help automakers and automotive tier one suppliers build highly sophisticated and future-ready car-infotainment systems. The platform features an innovative new HTML5 framework that will help enable automakers to keep their vehicles fresh with new content, address consumer demands for the latest mobile apps, and leverage a huge developer community. The QNX CAR 2 application platform is scheduled for general availability in mid-2012.

QNX Software Systems has licensed its software technology for millions of in-vehicle systems worldwide, including digital instrument clusters, hands-free systems, multimedia head units, connectivity modules, and 3D navigation systems.

The Best of CES 2012 awards ceremony was held in Las Vegas, on January 12.
