QNX Technology Powers New Zebra Technologies QLn™ Series Printer

QNX Neutrino RTOS, highly reliable and scalable operating system, chosen as standard software platform for Zebra’s portfolio of printers

OTTAWA — July 26, 2011QNX Software Systems Limited, a leading supplier of operating systems and middleware for connected embedded systems, today announced that Zebra Technologies, a recognized global leader in bar code, kiosk, card, and RFID printers as well as real-time location solutions, is standardizing on the QNX® Neutrino® Realtime Operating System (RTOS) as the software platform for its portfolio of printers. The first Zebra Technologies product line to use the QNX Neutrino RTOS is the new QLn mobile printer series.

Available now, the QLn printer series is designed for the retail and healthcare industries. It features a wide variety of capabilities, including Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi® connectivity, and, in an industry-first for mobile printers, an Ethernet connection option. By enabling remote status collection and better device management, the printer helps reduce service time and maximizes printer uptime, delivering a greater return-on-investment.

“QNX Software Systems is widely recognized for its superior realtime operating system and because of that, we could not think of a better choice to power our new printer line,” said Victor Salmons, Director, Application Technologies, Zebra Technologies. “We are committed to providing our customers with the most reliable and high performance printing experience as possible. QNX Software Systems has given us a proven platform that allows us to upgrade our printers easily in the field, and that gives us the reliability, scalability, and performance we require, given the demanding work environments our products are used in.”

The QNX Neutrino RTOS powers mission-critical applications in a wide range of industries, including in-car infotainment, medical diagnostics, and power-plant control. For the first time, mobile printer users can experience the same reliability, scalability, and realtime performance benefits that have made the QNX Neutrino RTOS the software platform of choice for many of the world’s most mission-critical environments.

The QNX Neutrino RTOS helps customers dynamically upgrade modules, and introduce new features and enhancements to their products without costly downtime and system outages. These upgrades can be done remotely in the field and most importantly without having to purchase new equipment.

“From automotive infotainment systems and tablets to the next generation of mobile printers, QNX technology is behind systems we depend on every day for work and life,” said Derek Kuhn, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, QNX Software Systems. “We strive to provide our customers with software and services that address their business needs and challenges. As such, we could not be more excited to introduce the QNX Neutrino RTOS to Zebra. Our flexible, field-proven OS will help them maximize their investment in hardware and help reduce time-to-market for new features and capabilities.”
