QNX Becomes First Automotive Software Supplier to Participate in Open Screen Project

QNX® CAR application platform helping to establish Adobe Flash as the standard for delivering interactive applications and rich user interfaces to the automobile.

LOS ANGELES, Adobe MAX 2009, October 6 QNX Software Systems, today announced that it has become the latest participant in the Open Screen Project, which is led by Adobe. An industry-wide initiative, the project aims to create a consistent runtime environment based on the Adobe® Flash® Platform that eliminates barriers to publishing applications, content, and video across multiple computing platforms and consumer electronics.

Through its highly successful QNX CAR application platform, QNX Software Systems is already helping to establish the Adobe Flash Platform as the standard for delivering interactive applications and rich user interfaces to the automobile. Launched in February 2009, QNX CAR is being used to create infotainment systems for 2011 vehicle models and has attracted more than 50 technology partners and automotive customers, including Adobe, Cisco, Daimler, Delphi, General Motors, Google, Gracenote, Mercedes-Benz, Microsoft, Pandora, Volkswagen, and others.

“The vision of the Open Screen Project is to provide consumers with rich Internet experiences across any device, anywhere; the QNX CAR application platform is helping to make that vision a reality by extending those experiences to a device that millions of people use every day — the automobile,” said Sebastien Marineau, vice president of engineering, QNX Software Systems.

“Through the QNX CAR application platform, QNX is creating a new channel for the distribution and consumption of Flash based applications, games, content, and HD video,” said Anthony Haag, director of business development, Open Screen Project at Adobe. “This will not only redefine the driving experience as we know it, but open exciting new opportunities — a new market, in fact — for Flash developers.”

The leader in operating systems and middleware for the in-car computing market, QNX Software Systems has licensed its technology for more than 10 million in-vehicle systems worldwide, in vehicles from Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Daimler, Fiat, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Saab, Toyota, Volkswagen, and others.
