  • Andrew Poliak of QNX selected as Telematics Award recipient from distinguished list of industry thought leaders and executives.

  • More than half of Telematics Award 2009 winners are either QNX customers or technology partners.

  • OTTAWA, June 17, 2009 — QNX Software Systems, the global leader in operating systems and middleware for the automotive market, today announced that Andrew Poliak, director of automotive business development, was selected as runner up for the Telematics Leadership Award at Telematics Detroit 2009.

Poliak was selected from a list of distinguished thought leaders in the telematics industry, including executives from BMW, Tele Atlas, and TomTom. Recently, Poliak helped define and launch QNX CAR, a program that significantly reduces the upfront engineering needed to develop connected in-vehicle systems.

Awards were handed out in 11 categories during the evening’s festivities. More than half of the award winners either work with QNX Software Systems as a technology partner or use the QNX® Neutrino® RTOS as the software foundation for their telematics systems.

As the leading supplier of middleware and operating systems for the in-car infotainment and telematics market, QNX has licensed its technology for use in more than 10 million automotive systems, in vehicles from Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Daimler, Fiat, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Toyota, Volkswagen, and others. QNX technology powers applications in more vehicle models (200 plus) and is used by more automakers and suppliers than all other OS platforms combined.

“It is both humbling and rewarding to be honored as runner up in the Telematics Awards ‘Leadership’ category, as the list of finalists includes some of the brightest and creative minds in the telematics industry,” said Poliak. “I attribute any industry recognition to the backing of an incredibly talented team at QNX Software Systems, many of who were responsible for the recent QNX CAR initiative. QNX CAR removes the financial and technical barriers to innovation, compresses the typically lengthy development cycle, provides a rich ecosystem, and enables automakers and Tier One suppliers to drive forward with next-generation infotainment, telematics, and navigation systems that truly connect.”
