QNX and Pandora Team Up to Bring Internet Radio to the Car

OTTAWA, June 2, 2009 — QNX Software Systems, the global leader in operating systems and middleware for the automotive market, today announced support for Pandora Internet radio. Pandora becomes the newest company to contribute to the fast-growing QNX CAR program, which provides automakers and automotive tier one suppliers with preintegrated software and hardware technologies to accelerate product prototyping and reduce engineering costs.

This week, at Telematics Detroit 2009, QNX will demonstrate a multi-node infotainment system with integrated Pandora support. Attendees can see the demo in the Amber Room of the Rock Financial Showplace. “Pandora is pleased to partner with an automotive leader like QNX Software Systems because we believe our service is essential to achieving the goal of a truly personalized infotainment experience in the car,” said Jessica Steel, senior vice president, Pandora. “By offering QNX-based infotainment systems equipped with the Pandora service, automakers will allow drivers and passengers to enjoy the same personalized radio experience on the road that they now enjoy at home or at work.”

Launched in February 2009, the QNX CAR program offers a comprehensive set of technologies, including a connected application platform, sample applications, reference implementations, and a mechanism for delivering software updates and new features to the vehicle. The application platform now includes integrations with consumer media devices, Bluetooth, content management, Pandora Internet radio, and many other third-party technologies. These integrations can drastically reduce the upfront engineering needed to initiate a prototyping program, both for OEMs proving out ideas in a lab and for tier one suppliers competing for their next customer win.
