QNX Joins ng Connect Program to Bring Wireless Broadband to the Automobile

BARCELONA, February 16, 2009 — QNX Software Systems, the global leader in operating systems and middleware for the in-car telematics and infotainment market, today announced that Alcatel-Lucent has invited QNX to join the ng Connect Program, a new multi-industry initiative dedicated to the rapid deployment of ultra high bandwidth services based on Long Term Evolution (LTE).

LTE offers far greater efficiency than current 3G networks, delivering a form of wireless broadband that allows mobile devices to access Voice over IP (VoIP), video streaming, and a host of other bandwidth-intensive services from almost any location.

As a member of the ng Connect Program, QNX will develop a proof-of-concept demonstration of how LTE can bring an array of new capabilities, such as cloud-based navigation services and music downloading, to the automobile. More importantly, QNX is laying the technology groundwork that will allow automakers to exploit the many benefits of LTE when it hits the airwaves.
