Virtually all of the world’s major automakers — including BMW, Chrysler, Daimler, Fiat, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Saab, Ssangyong, Toyota, and Volkswagen — now ship vehicles with QNX-based infotainment and telematics systems. These vehicles include models sold under numerous brands, including Acura, Alfa Romeo, Audi, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Dodge, Honda, Hummer, Infiniti, Jeep, Lancia, Mini, Mercedes, Opel, Pontiac, Saturn, and others.

Moreover, QNX’s market penetration is growing quickly. From 2004 to 2008, the number of automobiles using QNX software technology achieved a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 112 percent.

QNX’s deep success in the automotive market is the result of a committed, long-term approach to addressing the demanding requirements of automotive customers. In addition to offering automotive-grade middleware and operating system technology, QNX has built a large ecosystem of more than 100 technology partners, providing automakers and Tier One suppliers with a “one-stop shop” for complementary hardware and software technologies. Whether they need solutions for navigation, voice recognition, Bluetooth, Java, Web middleware, graphics, databases, tools, or silicon, QNX customers can choose from multiple vendors, all of which have integrated their technologies with the QNX® Neutrino® RTOS.

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote innovation in the car, QNX also offers the QNX OEM Innovation Labs (OIL) program, which provides leading-edge tools, middleware, and OS technology to the advanced design centers of automobile manufacturers. The software provided by the QNX OIL program enables these research groups to specify, demonstrate, and prototype next-generation in-car technologies, such as advanced HMIs, connectivity solutions, mobile Internet, on- and off-board hybrid applications, and location-based services.

To help customers tackle the time-to-market challenges of building today’s media-rich car infotainment systems, QNX has also recently launched the QNX Automotive Solutions program, which provides a broad array of services, including performance optimization, custom device drivers, architecture reviews, software integration, automotive hardening, and other solutions targeted to improve quality, meet timelines, and reduce costs for OEMs and their suppliers. The solutions team has a proven track record in helping Tier One suppliers meet or exceed specifications and Start Of Production dates.

“From the beginning, QNX has been at the forefront of innovation in the car infotainment and telematics industry, and we take great pride in our ability to anticipate next-generation technology requirements while providing customers with a rock-solid software platform proven in everything from nuclear power plants to the Space Shuttle,” said Dan Dodge, CEO of QNX Software Systems. “Our growing success is a testament not just to our technology, but also to the unwavering commitment and deep market experience we offer our automotive customers.”

This week, at the Convergence 2008 vehicle electronics conference, QNX will demonstrate its latest middleware and operating system technologies for digital instrument clusters, infotainment systems, rear-seat entertainment systems, handsfree communication devices, and connectivity modules. Visit booth #207, October 20 to 22.
