  • EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE, SAN FRANCISCO, March 8, 2005 - QNX Software Systems today announced its continued participation and new contributor member status with the Khronos Group, an industry consortium focused on the creation of open-standard, royalty-free APIs for embedded systems. As a contributing member of the Khronos Group, QNX will be an active player in the development of OpenGL® ES and OpenVG™, which bring cross-platform accelerated 3D and 2D graphics to in-car computing devices, casino gaming applications, industrial control systems, and a variety of other embedded platforms. QNX will accelerate the delivery of cutting-edge 3D and 2D platforms and applications to its embedded customers through early access to OpenGL ES and OpenVG specification drafts and conformance tests.

QNX joins other contributing members of the Khronos Group, such as Fujitsu, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic, and Renesas. Together, QNX and other contributing members will take part in working groups and vote to define the specifications for OpenGL ES and OpenVG standards and technology.

"As the first RTOS vendor to offer native support for accelerated 3D graphics and multi-layer user interfaces, QNX offers a high level of core market expertise and industry-proven technology to the Khronos Group," said Neil Trevett, senior vice president, market development, 3Dlabs; president, Khronos Group; chairman, OpenGL ES Working Group. "QNX's many successes in the embedded market testify to its commitment to developing industry standards. QNX is a valuable partner and resource for the Khronos Group and, together with other contributing members, is at the forefront of OpenGL ES and OpenVG standards for 3D and 2D embedded devices."

"QNX has long focused on optimizing advanced graphics to create the best user experience for embedded applications," said Mark Roberts, director of product management, QNX Software Systems. "By taking a leadership role with a Khronos Group membership, QNX is continuing to pave the way for standards and integrated solutions that help our customers accelerate the development of dynamic, media-rich devices for the automotive, military, and control industries."
