Electronic edition published: June 2, 2015

Host OS: You can install this package on one of the following development hosts:

  • Microsoft Windows 8 Professional 64-bit, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, or XP Professional SP3
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 64-bit or Ubuntu Workstation LTS 12.04 32- and 64-bit
Note: This version of the HTML5 SDK isn't compatible with QNX CAR™ Platform for Infotainment 2.1. If you want to develop apps for the QNX CAR Platform for Infotainment 2.1, refer to the installation notes located on the QNX SDK for HTML5 1.0 download page.

About the QNX SDK for HTML5

The HTML5 SDK contains the Cordova framework, runtime, tools, and APIs that you can use to create plugins and HTML5 apps. The HTML5 SDK is an application development platform that allows you to use common web technologies, such as HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS, to create apps for devices that run on the QNX SDK for Apps and Media. With this SDK, you can:
  • package an HTML5 app to deploy it to the target hardware
  • create JavaScript APIs (Cordova Plugin) to access native services on the platform
  • use webserver emulation so that your app can run without actually running a webserver on the target hardware
  • provide security features to your app

Plugins available with the HTML SDK allow you to access APIs built for the QNX SDK for Apps and Media 1.1.

Installing the archive

Note: Before you install the HTML SDK, ensure you have the following installed:

To install this archive:

  1. Log in to your myQNX account on the QNX website, then go to the Download area.
  2. Download the archive AppsMedia_html5sdk-datestamp.zip.
  3. Verify that the checksum of the package matches the one given in the Download area.
  4. Unzip the archive into installation_path, which is a location on your computer. If you have the QNX Software Development Platform or the QNX SDK for Apps and Media installed on your host system, you must extract it to a location outside of the directory that you installed the software. For example, if you installed the QNX Software Development Platform to C:\qnx660 directory (Windows), ensure you don't extract the HTML5 SDK within that directory structure.
    • On Linux:
      unzip AppsMedia_html5sdk-datestamp.zip -d installation_path
    • On Windows, use WinZip.

Configuring your path

  1. Add the packaging tools included with the SDK to your system path:

    For Linux:
Run the following in a command-line shell:
    # cd installation_path
    # cd html5sdk
    # export PATH=$PWD/tools/packaging/linux/bin:$PATH

Note: In Linux distributions, the above commands temporarily modify your path until you close the console session. To permanently modify your path, add the following command to your bash profile, located at ~/.profile:
     export PATH=installation_path/html5sdk/tools/packaging/linux/bin:$PATH
    For Windows:
    C:\>cd installation_path
    C:\installation_path>cd htmlsdk
    C:\installation_path\htmlsdk>set PATH=%CD%\tools\packaging\win32\bin;%PATH%

Note: The commands above modify your PATH until you close the command prompt. To permanently modify your path, add the path to the PATH variable in the Environment Variables window located in System Settings.
