How QNX software gets to end users

QSS licenses its QNX Momentics® Development tools, the QNX Neutrino® RTOS and the optional QNX Aviage™ middleware software (collectively, the QNX Development Suite) to Value Added Resellers (VARs) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) of which contain runtime components (Runtime Components) may be integrated into their products. Theses VARs and OEMs configure the Runtime Components to suit their purposes, integrate it into their own hardware and software environment, and distribute their products to their customers. These products may have a small QNX license sticker affixed to it, indicating the incorporation of the Runtime Components.

QSS tests its Runtime Components on specific reference platforms. QSS is unaware of the environment in which the Runtime Components have been provided to you. QSS places the responsibility for integrating and testing the Runtime Components with your VAR/OEM. They are responsible for ensuring that the Runtime Components are suitable for your end user products.

Licensing of QNX RTOS Software

While VARs and OEMs may sell their products to end users, the Runtime Components can only be licensed, not sold. As such, the Runtime Components are subject to a software license called an End User License Agreement (EULA) that sets out the license terms under which you, the end user, may use the Runtime Components. The VAR or OEM may present you with their license terms; otherwise the use of the Runtime Components is subject to the QNX EULA. The EULA has an accompanying License Guide that describes the Runtime Components (of which the product may only contain a subset). The chart below outlines the applicable EULA and License Guide:
