Floating licenseLicense Management GuideLicense ServerDevelopment Hosts

To use Floating Developer Licenses for the QNX Software Development Platform (SDP), you need to:

  • Set up a floating license server
  • Install QNX SDP on your development hosts
  • Configure your development hosts to use floating licenses and to connect to the license server or servers
Note:
Ensure that you install the latest version of the floating license software on your client and floating license servers.

This document guides you through the steps of performing these tasks.

System requirements

Floating license server
Any Microsoft Windows or Linux machine compatible with QNX SDP can function as a license server. Note, however, that you don't need to install QNX SDP on the server. Follow the instructions outlined in the Install the floating license server package section in the Preparing to Configure a License Server chapter.
To determine whether your server machine is compatible, see the list of supported OSs in the QNX SDP 8.0.x Release Notes or QNX SDP 7.1 Release Notes, depending on the version you are using.
Development Hosts
Any Microsoft Windows, Linux, or macOS development host that can run QNX SDP can work with floating licenses.
To determine whether your server machine is compatible, see the list of supported OSs in the QNX SDP 8.0.x Release Notes or QNX SDP 7.1 Release Notes, depending on the version you are using.
Note:
In some Linux environments, you may encounter problems related to Linux Standard Base (LSB) compliance, which presents in the form of a No such file or directory error when using the LM tools lmutil and lmgrd. To learn how to avoid this problem, refer to the Troubleshooting chapter of this guide.
