QNX Launches New Embedded Browser with ACCESS NetFront Technology

OTTAWA, Canada, December 10, 2003 - - QNX Software Systems today launched the QNX® VoyagerTM 2 embedded Web browser, a modular, scalable and high- performance solution for Internet applications. QNX Voyager 2 is built upon ACCESS' NetFront Browser Engine technology, the same technology that powers the NetFront browser used in NTT DoCoMo's wildly successful i-modeTM service as well as the new Palm OS 5 Browser and the Blazer 3.0 browser available in the new HandSpring Treo 600 handheld.

With NetFront technology at its core, QNX Voyager 2 includes several new features that meet the complex demands of today's embedded devices, including support for HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.1, secure transaction handling through SSL 3.0 and unique rendering technologies for ultra-small displays. For devices that require mobile browsing, QNX Voyager 2 also includes support for Internet standards such as WAP 2.0 and WML 1.3. Through modular customization packages, customers can keep memory requirements to a minimum by installing only the components and protocols that they need.

The QNX Voyager 2 browser is well-suited for Web browsing on devices such as cell phones, PDAs, medical devices, kiosks, set-top boxes, and in-car telematics devices, including dashboard or pop-down video screens. Voyager, QNX's first-generation embedded browser and user interface, will continue to be supported and serviced by the company.

"Our customers need to display Web content in virtually every kind of device, in environments ranging from the automobile to the factory floor," said Sachin Lawande, director of product development for QNX Software Systems. "As the requirement for Web access shifts from amusement to necessity, the features in QNX Voyager 2, together with our QNX Neutrino® operating system, will make accessing the Web easier, faster and infinitely more reliable."

The QNX Voyager 2 browser will meet the demands of many markets, including automotive, in-car infotainment, industrial control and medical. Existing QNX Voyager customers who wish to upgrade to QNX Voyager 2 can save development time by keeping their customized user interface and simply substituting the new NetFront Browser Engine.

The ACCESS NetFront Browser Engine provides broad support for many Internet standards, including the latest W3C standards for wireless and security, as well as a full range of plug-ins for accessing different types of content, including multimedia.

"ACCESS is excited to be working with QNX Software Systems to provide Internet access capabilities to its famously reliable and scalable operating system, and to jointly help develop new market opportunities for mobility such as telematics," said Toru Arakawa, president and CEO of ACCESS. "Integrating our NetFront Browser Engine technology with the QNX Voyager 2 browser is a significant step toward our goal of global pervasive Internet access."

QNX Voyager 2 with NetFront Browser Engine technology provides advanced technologies that make today's mobile Internet devices more powerful and useful, including:
