  • OTTAWA, May 6, 2009 — QNX Software Systems today announced that its QNX® Neutrino® Realtime Operating System (RTOS) is powering warehouse control solutions from Fortna, a leader in designing, implementing, and supporting complete supply-chain solutions for companies such as Amazon, ASICS, O’Reilly Automotive, Avnet Electronics, and Brown Shoe.

The FortnaWCS™ warehouse control system utilizes the QNX Neutrino RTOS to deliver high speed and industrial strength reliability. Designed to serve both operations and IT, FortnaWCS is a robust, maintainable, and supportable solution that optimizes materials handling systems. Its superior flexibility and modular design allow organizations to efficiently manage their automation (sortation, conveyors, RFID, print and apply equipment, voice and light systems) with one system across disparate equipment. FortnaWCS provides the lowest cost of ownership, simplicity, and scaleability across multiple sites, plus reliability for maximum uptime performance metrics in tough industrial environments.

“We rely on QNX technology to develop and deploy our FortnaWCS product because of its proven reliability, speed, and industrial strength fault-tolerance,” said Peter Counihan, president of Fortna. “In addition, the modular architecture of the QNX Neutrino RTOS enables us to build high-performance systems that scale easily to deliver great results for our clients.”

For almost 30 years, QNX technology has been used in a wide variety of industrial automation systems, including nuclear reactors, wind turbines, SCADA products, building automation systems, and ultra-precision machining tools. The QNX Neutrino RTOS provides a robust, fault-tolerant microkernel architecture that enables shorter development cycles, fewer software bugs, and higher uptimes than traditional operating systems.

To speed development of industrial automation applications, QNX Software Systems provides the QNX Momentics® Tool Suite, an Eclipse-based solution that offers highly integrated tools for memory analysis, system profiling, application profiling, code coverage, visual debugging, and remote diagnostics.
