Protecode Developer IP Assistant Tool Available for Software Governance and IP Management on QNX Momentics Tool Suite

Ottawa, ON and Boston, MA – October 27, 2008 – Protecode Inc. and QNX Software Systems today announced that developers can now use Protecode’s preventive real-time software governance and Intellectual Property (IP) management tool on the QNX Momentics Tool Suite for embedded systems based on the QNX Neutrino® Realtime Operating System (RTOS).

Protecode’s Developer IP Assistant tool extends support and interoperability to the QNX Momentics Tool Suite by accelerating managed adoption of open source code in a simple, painless process. The Protecode tool helps reduce development costs and speed up market availability of embedded system products using the QNX Neutrino RTOS. Protecode automatically generates records of software content, identifies and reports on associated IP and licensing attributes and compliance against an organization’s policies, establishing IP ownership and creating a software Bill of Materials (BoM).

“By having the Protecode plug-in client available on QNX Momentics, developers of embedded systems based on the QNX Neutrino RTOS can readily adopt open source components,” said Kroy Zaviar, business alliance manager at QNX Software Systems. “Protecode’s Developer IP Assistant tool can flag potential IP issues right away, helping to avoid any after-the-fact, expensive, and lengthy redesign efforts.”

Simplifying the product development cycle, QNX Momentics provides a suite of productivity and analysis tools, all integrated into a single, Eclipse-based IDE. With value-added middleware for embedded devices that require advanced graphics, multimedia, and acoustic processing, the QNX product portfolio enables rapid development of quality systems based on the QNX Neutrino RTOS.

“For more than 25 years, QNX has enabled software developers to accelerate and enhance the efficiency of embedded systems as they are an advocate of code-reuse and support for open source projects,” said Dr. Mahshad Koohgoli, CEO of Protecode. “By doing so, QNX represents a significant step forward in support of quality software development tools and practices.”
