MySQL AB and QNX Software Systems Announce Product Compatibility for the Embedded Market
SEATTLE, Wash. and OTTAWA, Canada, May 20, 2003 - MySQL AB, developer of the world's most popular open source database, and QNX Software Systems, the industry leader in real-time, microkernel operating systems, today announced that the MySQL® database for the QNX® Neutrino® real-time operating system (RTOS) running on the x86 processor is now available and fully supported by MySQL AB. Users of the QNX Neutrino RTOS 6.2.1 can now integrate MySQL as the high performance data management system in their embedded applications. MySQL for the QNX Neutrino operating system can be downloaded from the MySQL AB Web site at www.mysql.com/downloads.
"Many of the world's leading companies rely on MySQL and QNX Neutrino-based applications, and now they will reap the benefits of these two high-performance software products together," said Linda Campbell, director of Strategic Alliances at QNX. "By supporting the MySQL database, we offer developers and end users access to a proven, open source DBMS with a solid track record of reliability and performance."
The QNX Neutrino RTOS is used by systems developers to create realtime applications that are embedded in telecommunications equipment, automotive systems, medical instrumentation, consumer electronics and many other devices. QNX Neutrino is built on a microkernel architecture perfected from over 20 years of use in mission-critical environments. Its unique architecture delivers an extensible framework to create reliable, scalable and high-performance products.
The MySQL database is a high-performance relational database management system for Web site and business application development and deployment. With a streamlined but functionally rich feature set, the MySQL database maximizes speed, stability and ease of deployment. MySQL is available on all major Linux distributions, as well as Unix, Mac OS X and Windows operating systems. The new compatibility with the QNX Neutrino RTOS extends the reach of MySQL in the embedded market.
"MySQL's streamlined design and speed make it an ideal database for embedded QNX applications. For MySQL AB, this is a important step to realizing our vision of having a MySQL database in every computing device," said Michael (Monty) Widenius, MySQL AB CTO and co-founder.
