License information

On the license certificate, you'll find license information that you'll be prompted to enter in a dialog box when you run Phindows for the very first time.

Note: Be sure to enter the license information using lower-case letters, for example phin.00xxxxxx-abcd-efgh-zzzz-aaaa-bbbb. Also, use l (“el”), and 1 in the appropriate places.

Note also that you'll need a license for each Windows machine that runs Phindows.

Phindows supports the latest version of the QNX SDP 6.5.0 license keys.

Minimum host system requirements

  • Windows 98.

Note: Phindows is designed to connect to a remote QNX machine running Phindows.

For up-to-date information on configuring Phindows, troubleshooting, etc., go to the Knowledge Base at our QDN site (http://qdn.qnx.com/).

Installation procedure

Caution: Before installing Phindows 3.0, you must un-install any existing Phindows installations.

To install Phindows:

  1. Double-click the executable file phindows-3.0-version-win32.exe.
  2. Click Next, and follow the instructions on your screen.
  3. Read the Phindows online documentation and make sure that the TCP/IP connection is correctly set up on both the Windows/NT machine and on the QNX machine.

The default Windows XP installation directory is c:\Program Files\phindows 3.0.

Note:

The default Windows Vista installation directory is c:\Program Files (x86)\phindows 3.0.

The installer also creates FONT and CACHE subdirectories to allow Phindows to cache Photon font and image data.

Note: Unless you have a suitable QNX Momentics Tool suite license already installed, Phindows will prompt you for a license key the first time you run the product.

Getting started with Phindows

To launch Phindows, click Start-->Programs-->QNX Phindows-->Phindows, or run c:\Program Files\phindows 3.0\phindows.exe (or c:\Program Files (x86)\phindows 3.0 on Windows Vista). Phindows will display a Connect dialog where you can specify connection settings and Phindows preferences.

Context sensitive help is available for each option. To access context sensitve help, press the ? button and then click on the option that you want to learn more about. Note that newer Phindows features require the remote QNX machine to be running an up to date version of Phindows.

You can use command line options to specify a remote QNX system. The command line options are documented in the Phindows built-in help screens, and in the Phindows User's Guide.
