The Terminal view lets you establish many types of connections to a target system.
One common usage of this view is when you don't have an image running on your target but you need to communicate with
its startup program (e.g., a ROM monitor) so you can download an image (and then boot from it).
Because no TCP/IP stack is running on your target at this stage, you can't use services such as Telnet
that rely on a network connection, so you must establish a serial link with the target.
When you get an image running on the target, you can then use the Terminal view to:
- Change between different targets in Telnet or SSH mode; it can be done through a relogin process, or by logging in from
another instance of a Terminal view.
- Change to another target in serial mode if there's more than one serial port on the host and the second port or subsequent ones
are connected to another target. If the last condition is satisfied, you can change the port number and settings from the current
terminal, or open a new instance of the Terminal view and then connect it to another port (and hence, target).
