Web services- the true Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) for the Internet era

Date: Tue., June 29, 10:00 am ET

Target Audience:

Embedded developers and managers in the following markets: Industrial Automation and Control, Military, In-car Automotive, and Medical Devices

Abstract:

Web services is simplifying how companies extend management in the field for the likes of remote monitoring, in-field upgrades, and device configuration. However, the ability of an enterprise to have access to real-time information spanning across multiple departments, applications, platforms and systems is one of the most important driving factors behind the adoption of web services.

What is required to provide this remote management capability is more than simply an embedded web server. Organizations need a framework implementing an architecture across public networks, that can provide all the benefits desired of web-based configuration, access, monitoring, and control.

Unlike conventional Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), web services have been designed from the ground up to be Internet-friendly, offering a .NET friendly and platform neutral approach for integrating applications and leveraging a web-enabled form of computer-to-computer communications that addresses key requirements of embedded systems, including remote diagnostics and provisioning.

Join QNX Software Systems for a technical web seminar that examines how to embed such functionality into resource-constrained devices, using frameworks independent of any particular programming language. Responsible for Product Management at QNX Software Systems, Steve Furr will provide an overview of web services and discuss how web services can be adapted to address the specific challenges posed by embedded systems, such as fast, predictable response times and tight memory constraints.
