Designing and Optimizing Software for Intel® Architecture Multi-core Processors

Abstract:

Compared to conventional uniprocessor chips, multi-core processors offer significantly greater concurrency, system density, and performance per watt. This evolution to multi-core architecture can help developers lower costs while providing greater flexibility to deliver innovative solutions to customers. For example, in many embedded applications with Intel dual core processors it is possible to run real-time tasks on dedicated execution cores, unencumbered from other tasks that would otherwise compete for CPU resources.

This seminar will help developers realize the benefits of Intel multi-core processors in their embedded applications. The seminar will describe Intel dual-core processors including processor and cache architecture, interrupts and execution environments. Technical experts will discuss proven strategies and techniques for maximizing application performance by distributing software tasks across multiple CPU cores. The benefits and tradeoffs of several multiprocessing models (AMP, SMP, BMP), and tools for troubleshooting and optimizing multi-core systems will also be discussed.

This webcast will be useful for those developers/system architects who are planning to use or who are considering using multi-core technology in their designs. It will last for a full hour with Q&A. There are no prerequisites for this webcast.

Speaker Biographies:

John Beaton specializes in marketing Intel® Architecture technologies for Intel's Communication Infrastructure Group. His recent work at Intel has included technology and initiative marketing, product line management, strategic planning, product definition and market analysis. Mr. Beaton also spent five years managing a multinational account in Intel's field sales force. He holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in electrical and computer engineering, and has 20 years experience in engineering, sales and marketing. Mr. Beaton can be reached at john.beaton@intel.com

Robert Craig is a senior software engineer for the OS kernel group at QNX Software Systems. With over 12 years' experience in embedded systems design, Mr. Craig has worked extensively as both a software architect and a development team manager for various data communications companies. Mr. Craig holds a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science and Physics, and a Doctorate in Physics with a focus on optical computing technologies.
