QNX Automotive Ecosystem Puts Driving Experience into High Gear at 2014 CES

Industry innovators collaborate with QNX Software Systems to create new automotive experiences at global consumer electronics tradeshow

LAS VEGAS, 2014 International CES (North Hall, Booth 536), January 7, 2014QNX Software Systems Limited, a global leader in software platforms for in-car electronics, today will showcase automotive solutions created in collaboration with application developers, cloud services experts, and silicon vendors to deliver new, user-centric driving experiences to the car. Attendees can view these demonstrations in the QNX booth (North Hall, 536) and in partner booths and suites across 2014 CES.

QNX Software Systems brings the creativity, field-proven solutions, and development speed of its automotive ecosystem to address the design challenges faced by automakers and automotive tier one suppliers. To date, QNX Software Systems and its partners have developed solutions deployed in tens of millions of vehicles worldwide.

QNX Software Systems’ new technology concept car based on a Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG and reference vehicle based on a Jeep Wrangler demonstrate how the QNX CAR™ Platform for Infotainment enables automotive companies to select from a rich choice of partner technologies — everything from navigation engines and human-machine interfaces to smartphone connectivity, silicon, and speech recognition. Partner demonstrations in the QNX® booth and in other locations include the following:

Navigation

Aisin AW Co., Ltd. — Aisin AW, a leading supplier of navigation systems and software solutions for the worldwide automotive market, is integrating its navigation engine with the QNX CAR Platform for Infotainment. QNX Software Systems will demonstrate this integration in its booth at CES.

Elektrobit (EB) — QNX Software Systems will demonstrate Elektrobit’s 3D navigation solution, EB street director, in the QNX technology concept car based on a Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG. In addition, Elektrobit will demonstrate a new concept urban electric vehicle called Véhicule Urbain Electrique (VUE) that has a full instrument cluster and infotainment system based on the QNX® Neutrino® Realtime Operating System and developed with the EB GUIDE 5.5 HMI platform. Kotei Informatics — Kotei Informatics, a leading Japanese provider of software development services and navigation solutions for companies like Nissan Motors, Hitachi Group, Toshiba Group, Clarion, Denso, and Edia, is integrating its navigation engine with the QNX CAR Platform for Infotainment. QNX Software Systems will demonstrate the solution in the Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG.

HERE, a Nokia business — The HERE Auto embedded navigation solution connects to the HERE Cloud to provide the driver with access to connected services, including weather, parking availability, traffic, fuel price and payment services, and more. QNX Software Systems is integrating HERE Auto with the QNX CAR Platform for Infotainment and will demonstrate the solution in the Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG.

Digital Instrument Clusters

HI Corporation — HI Corporation, a provider of comprehensive HMI solutions for embedded devices, is optimizing its HMI tools and runtime software for the QNX CAR Platform for Infotainment. QNX Software Systems will showcase this new partnership in a digital instrument cluster that can seamlessly integrate with a car’s navigation system to display turn-by-turn directions.

Infotainment

Gracenote — Gracenote, the global leader in music technology and metadata, will showcase the ability to personalize the in-vehicle music experience using the QNX® Neutrino® Realtime Operating System. Demonstrations will take place in the Gracenote Lounge at the Cosmopolitan (fourth floor, Nolita Room 1).

Hardware

Freescale Semiconductor — Freescale will showcase the QNX CAR Platform for Infotainment, as well as the QNX® Neutrino® Realtime Operating System with Elektrobit EB GUIDE for Instrument Clusters, on Freescale’s i.MX 6 Applications Processors for Automotive in suites at the Palazzo hotel. Freescale’s scalable family of i.MX 6 processors is designed to enable consumer electronics user experiences and advanced device connectivity in the automotive environment.

NVIDIA — NVIDIA, the leading visual computing company, will demonstrate Audi's newest infotainment system featuring the NVIDIA® Tegra® processor and the QNX Neutrino Realtime Operating System in the LVCC, South Hall 3, Booth 30207.

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. — QNX Software Systems will demonstrate the first implementation of Snapdragon™ Automotive Solutions for infotainment systems in the QNX reference vehicle, where it is powering several applications running on the QNX CAR Platform for Infotainment. Qualcomm will also demonstrate the QNX CAR Platform in its booth, LVCC Central Hall, Booth 8252.

Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) — QNX Software Systems will demonstrate the QNX CAR Platform for Infotainment on a high-performance, low-power TI processor in the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG. In its meeting rooms, TI will also demonstrate the QNX CAR Platform running on its latest Jacinto processors. Visit LVCC, North Hall Meeting Rooms, N115, N116, N118, N119.

Smartphone Connectivity

RealVNC — QNX Software Systems will demonstrate RealVNC’s MirrorLink™ implementation in the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG, where it supports mobile-to-vehicle integration over USB. With RealVNC’s MirrorLink Certified VNC Automotive SDK integrated in the QNX CAR Platform, automotive developers can implement smartphone connectivity over USB, Bluetooth®, and Wi-Fi®.

Speech Recognition

Nuance — QNX Software Systems will showcase the power of Nuance voice recognition technology in the Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG. Nuance voice recognition technology helps drivers stay focused on the road while making eyes-free, hands-free calls or interacting with the car’s infotainment system — simply by using their voice.

Virtualization

Red Bend Software — Red Bend, a firmware over-the-air (FOTA) provider, will showcase a virtualization demo that runs the QNX CAR Platform for Infotainment and a Crank Software-based digital instrument cluster on dual displays driven by a single TI Jacinto 6 processor.
