  • OTTAWA, May 6, 2008 — QNX Software Systems, the global leader in operating systems and middleware for the in-car telematics and infotainment market, today announced it has joined the Internet ITS Consortium of Japan, an industry organization of Tier One suppliers and automakers focused on the development, standardization, and commercialization of intelligent transportation system (ITS) technology. As a member of the consortium, QNX will make the QNX® Neutrino® realtime operating system (RTOS), as well as the QNX Aviage® multimedia suite available to the consortium’s in-car systems working group for the development of a feature-rich in-car multimedia console. The QNX Neutrino RTOS effortlessly handles the complexity of feature-rich ITS applications. Its modular, dynamically upgradable design is “future proof,” enabling support for the latest industry standards and features.

The QNX Aviage multimedia suite is an automotive-grade solution that is part media server, part media payer, and part OEM middleware design platform. It enables automakers and Tier One suppliers to build digital infotainment systems quickly and easily. With the QNX Aviage multimedia suite, designers can integrate consumer devices such as iPods into the vehicle, while ensuring the end user experience is simplified and seamless.

“QNX is a valuable new member of our consortium,” said Naoki Tokitsu, president of the Internet ITS Consortium. “The QNX Neutrino RTOS and QNX Aviage suite provide a fault-tolerant platform that will help us to facilitate the open exchange of information and reduce development cycles as we strive to develop and standardize an infrastructure for ITS.”

“As the next generation of telematics and infotainment systems begin to hit the road, the flexibility and compatibility of the OS becomes even more crucial,” said Hideki Matsuoka, regional sales manager at QNX Software Systems. “We look forward to working with other consortium members on the development of an open platform for Internet ITS.”
