QNX Technology Seminar - Ottawa
Making the Switch to RapidIOOttawa, ON
Wednesday, March 16, 2005
Co-sponsored by Freescale
RapidIO is a reliable high-speed interconnect technology ideally suited for networking applications. It provides the hardware infrastructure that enables development of distributed systems and offers a level of reliability, interoperability and traffic management not available in competing implementations.
Software also plays a critical role in the development of highly scalable, distributed systems based on RapidIO. To fully utilize the rich feature set provided, RTOS support is essential. This session will review key hardware and software development issues that must be considered in any RapidIO based system design. In this seminar, we’ll explore how engineers can take advantage of the many advanced features of RapidIO, including its mechanisms for dynamic discovery, enumeration, and configuration of connected devices, as well as its provisions for resource management, automated error detection and recovery.
Particular attention will be given to the requirements for an inter-process communication or messaging layer in RapidIO designs. QNX transparent distributed processing provides system developers with a proven inter-process communication capability that can fully leverage RapidIO packet forwarding, accelerating time to market while minimizing overhead and reducing CPU utilization.
