Process models

The QNX Web Browser employs a modular, multiprocess architecture that takes advantage of the memory protection, security mechanisms, and concurrency of the QNX Neutrino RTOS. This multiprocess architecture comprises the following main components:

• Browser process — Runs the user interface and manages the tab and plugin processes.
• GPU process — Handles communication with the GPU to provide hardware-accelerated rendering.
• Renderer process — Interprets and formats web pages. Multiple renderer processes may run simultaneously; each is an instance of the rendering engine.
• Zygote process — Forks child renderer processes.

To help you make the most of this architecture, the QNX Web Browser supports a choice of application process models and renderer process models.
