Spooling directories

Each node you wish to print from must have a spooling directory to hold the files to be printed.

By default, the pathname for this directory is /usr/spool/output/lpd (you can change the pathname of the spooling directory in the /etc/printcap file). If this directory doesn't exist, you must create it on all nodes.

Note: The lpd daemon doesn't work without a spooling directory, and it doesn't tell you why. That's why it's a good idea to run the system logger (see syslogd in the Utilities Reference) when you're trying to debug printing problems; then you can check for error messages in /var/log/syslog.
