Logitech has created what may well be the couch potato’s ultimate power toy.
The Logitech Harmony 1000 Advanced Universal Remote is a sophisticated QNX-based remote that gives consumers one-touch control of a complete range of home entertainment devices, including VCRs, digital video recorders, DVD players, televisions, and other electronic appliances. Cost-sensitive, power-efficient, and highly available, the Harmony 1000 features a brilliant 3.5" color touch screen and software upgradeability.

| The Harmony 1000 remote demonstrates how QNX technology provides a solid foundation for developing next-generation multimedia products in record time. |
When Logitech needed a proven software vendor that could deliver functionality and reliability under extremely tight product development timelines, they turned to QNX Software Systems for industry-leading software and development tools.
The rich functionality of the Harmony 1000 stems from the integration of numerous complex software components. Logitech’s tight production schedule meant many of these components had to be developed in parallel. Thanks to the modularity of the QNX Neutrino RTOS, the Logitech development team was able to divide software design into cleanly separated building blocks that could be developed, debugged, and tested in parallel. Besides accelerating the team’s development efforts, this modular design enabled a high level of reliability and, going forward, will make it easier to upgrade the universal remotes with new or improved capabilities.
To further shorten their development cycle, Logitech took advantage of the extensive support options and custom engineering services that QNX provides, including hardware consultation and support for the Freescale i.MX21 multimedia processor.
The end result speaks for itself. The Harmony 1000 remote represents the latest and most intelligent evolution of simple, one-touch control. It’s not just for couch potatoes, but for everyone who thinks technology should make our lives less complicated.
