Vice President of Marketing

Location: Ottawa (Kanata), Ontario


Our Marketing Department is looking for a Vice-President to develop policies, programs and objectives for product/service marketing activities of the corporation. The ideal candidate recommends changes in marketing philosophy and policy to meet changing market and competitive conditions. Their background of technical knowledge will direct market research, product positioning and advertising functions to accomplish corporate objectives. Other duties include, but are not limited to, advising top executives on pricing and market consideration affecting sales.

Job Duties

Primary Functions

Develop marketing objectives and strategies in accordance with overall corporate objectives and mandate as established by the President/CEO.;

Direct and co-ordinate Marketing functional groups so that their activities are carried out in an integrated manner that is consistent with corporate goals and objectives.;

Establish overall company marketing strategies and programs, including sector-focused product positioning, branding, bundling, pricing, distribution, advertising and promotion policies.;

Develop volume, product mix, market awareness, lead generation and market share objectives, and monitors performance against objectives.;

Direct market research, competitive analysis and product positioning in order to facilitate the strategic direction of company products in its key sectors and contribute to the overall assessment of product feasibility and competitive position.;

Establish accountability and authority limits for subordinates and monitors their performance in execution of business plans and objectives, taking corrective action where warranted.;

Implement, on a continuous basis, an organizational structure and staffing plan that meets the on-going operational needs of marketing and the marketing collaboration needs of the corporation.;

Establish an organizational climate conducive to maximizing employee potential and productivity, corporate teamwork, and retention of key personnel. Ensure implementation of corporate policies and programs to motivate, recognise and compensate employees in a manner consistent with results achieved.;

Represent the organization in important external business relationships with major clients, partners, suppliers, and the public so that the organization's image is reflected in the most positive manner and where such contacts are critical to the achievement of Marketing objectives.;

Participate as a member of the Senior Management Team, recommends on policy revisions, and advises President/CEO on matters affecting company Marketing activities.;

Experience & Education

Education and Experience

Masters degree in Business Administration with specialization in marketing, or equivalent.;

10 years (minimum) of business experience, including 4 or more years of responsible management experience within the embedded software marketplace.;

Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent, with a strong technical understanding of embedded software development.;

Broad general knowledge of the embedded software marketplace, ideally focused on one or more of the Automotive, Industrial Automation and/or Medical sectors.;

Thorough knowledge and on-going awareness of current marketing concepts and practices in the embedded marketplace.;
