Project Manager - Custom Engineering

Location: Ottawa (Kanata), Ontario


Our Custom Engineering Team are looking for a project manager to round out their group. This role coordinates between the customer and engineering in terms of ensuring that custom engineering work is properly scoped, defined and distributed to ensure complete customer satisfaction. The successful candidate likes to work with customers and has a strong technical background so that they can understand the customer needs and translate them into requirements for the engineering staff.

Job Duties

Manage and coordinate the implementation and delivery of assigned Custom Engineering projects.

Provide weekly or bi-weekly updates to customers on the status of their Custom Engineering projects.

Provide regular status and updates to various internal stakeholders.

Prepare Custom Engineering project estimates and Work Orders to QNX customers. This task involves requirements analysis, identification of new development items, defining the scope of work, and preparing the quotation.

Assembles required data, including budget, time constraints; contract and technical data; and develops detailed Statement of Work documents for projects, detailing all activities required for successful completion.

Arranges and negotiates the distribution of work packages to the responsible function within the company and/or external contractors ensuring awareness of and commitment to project requirements.

Monitors progress throughout the project cycle, ensuring cost and time constraints are met and acting to ensure problem resolution, as necessary.

Interfaces with R&D software developers, group leaders, contractors and others outside the company to obtain or provide program, technical and progress data.

Facilitates and ensures individual and team roles and responsibilities are understood; performance measurement objectives are identified, measured and monitored on an on-going basis in order to provide positive feedback on accomplishments and to ensure immediate action is taken to address shortfalls.

Experience & Education

Bachelors degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent experience, and

4 - 6 years (minimum) experience in technical program/project management .

Specialized Skills:

Skills in project planning and management, judgement, decision making, and problem solving.

Knowledge of applicable programmatic/technical procedures and specifications; awareness of program contractual processes.

Skills in effective leadership, innovation, analysis and communications.
